How to Descale a Quooker: Aerator, Tank and Limescale Prevention

Quick answer: a Quooker needs no preventive maintenance and no routine descaling. Descale only when limescale builds up — usually in hard-water areas — and you notice a weaker flow. Start with the tap aerator: that solves most cases.
Step 1 — Descale the tap aerator
- Unscrew the metal sleeve (nozzle) at the end of the spout.
- Place the aerator sieve in cleaning vinegar for one hour.
- Rinse off the loosened limescale with water.
- Screw the aerator back into place and test the flow.
Quooker shows this procedure for the Flex, Fusion and Front taps. A worn aerator can be replaced with a genuine Quooker aerator.
Step 2 — Still a weak flow? Check the tank
If the boiling-water flow is still not optimal after descaling the nozzle and aerator, limescale may have built up inside the tank. Quooker lets you clean the tank yourself by replacing the tank internals with the Quooker maintenance kit, and publishes step-by-step videos for the PRO3, COMBI and COMBI+ tanks. Never descale the tap body
Clean the outside of the tap with hot water and a soft cloth only. Quooker strongly advises against anti-scale agents, vinegar, abrasives and scouring pads on the tap itself: they can damage the finish and the grease that keeps the parts moving smoothly. Vinegar is only for the removed aerator sieve.
Prevent limescale in hard water
In hard-water areas Quooker recommends the Scale Control R. It prevents further limescale build-up in the tank, is designed to extend the tank's lifespan and improves the taste of the water.
How often should you descale?
Only when needed. Soft water may never require it; in hard water you may need to descale periodically. Watch the flow: a weaker stream is the signal.
Filters are a separate job
A CUBE or cold-water filter cartridge is not descaled but replaced — for hygienic reasons at least every 12 months, regardless of use (the Hi-TAC filter excepted). See the Quooker filter guide.
Do it yourself or call a professional?
Cleaning and descaling you can do yourself. For safety and reliability, full servicing should be carried out by Quooker or a qualified professional. Indicator light flashing? Read what the Quooker lights mean.
