Quooker Light Flashing? What the Red Lights Mean and How to Reset

Quick answer: a solid red light means the water is heating up. A slow pulse on the tank (the "heartbeat") means 100 °C boiling water is ready. A tap light that flashes twice signals a possible fault or lost communication between tap and tank — reconnecting the LED cable usually fixes it.
What each light means
- Solid red on tank and tap (occasional flicker): the water in the tank is heating up — normal after switching on.
- Tap light off, tank light pulsing slowly: the heartbeat. Boiling water is ready to use.
- Tap light flashing twice: a possible fault, or the tap has lost communication with the tank.
- No light at all on the tank: no power — see the checks below.
Tap flashing: reconnect tap and tank
- Make sure the tank is plugged in and the power is on.
- Pull the tap's thin black LED cable out of the tank.
- Switch off the power to the tank at the wall socket.
- Reconnect the LED cable to the tank.
- Switch the power back on and press the Q-shaped button on top of the tank (it may need a couple of presses). You should see a solid red light on tank and tap.
- Push-push and turn the textured ring: water should flow.
Full reset
- Switch the Quooker off on top of the tank and unplug it.
- Unplug the thin black LED cable from the back of the tank, wipe its tip with a clean dry cloth and plug it back in.
- Serial number with VCD or VCW? The tank has two ports. Move the LED cable to the spare port under the plastic cap. With a Cold Water Filter or CUBE both ports are in use: swap the two cables.
- Plug the tank back in, but leave it switched off.
- Run the boiling-water tap for about three minutes to replenish the water in the tank.
- Leave the tank off for another 15 minutes, then switch it on: a solid red light should appear on tap and tank.
- After about 10–20 minutes the tank light pulses like a heartbeat and the tap light goes out — the tap is ready again.
No light on the tank
- Check that the plug is in and the socket is switched on, then press the Q-shaped button on top of the tank.
- Still nothing? Unplug the Quooker and test the socket with another appliance.
COMBI gives no warm water
If the tank light is solid red or pulsing, turn the COMBI mixer valve towards the letter "W" for warmer water, up to a maximum of 65 °C.
Cold Water Filter: blue light does not come on
With the tank switched on, turn the power off at the socket, wait 1–2 seconds, switch it back on and test again after about 10 seconds. Repeat a few times if needed.
Safety
Never use the Quooker tap or switch on the tank while the water supply is shut off — this can damage your Quooker. Still flashing after these steps? Contact Quooker service in your country. Weak flow instead of a light problem? See the descaling guide.
